At a workshop entitled “Egypt under Emergency Law …where to ?”
Which was held by the Egyptian Organization For Human Rights (EOHR )supported by European Union on Monday 30/6/2008 , participants warned from the consequence of enacting a new law for terrorism as it will violate the rights and main freedoms which were guaranteed by the international covenants concerned with human rights .Participants called for the necessary of releasing a social dialogue concerning this law which shouldn’t be confined to a particular party or a certain body and to be declared to the public opinion .

At the end of a workshop held by the Egyptian Organization For Human Rights (EOHR) at Teachers Syndicate in Al Menya governorate within the framework of the Egyptian Legislative Reform Forum which supported by the European Union on Sunday 29/6/2008 , Participants called for the necessary of amending the legislative structure from such restricted articles imposed on the rights and freedoms , and enacting a new laws for press ,parties and judiciary .

The workshop will include university professors ,judges ,members of the parliament ,representatives of political parties and civil society activists .

At the end of a workshop held by EOHR on 16/6/2008 entitled “The law of economic courts … positives and negatives “ , economists and law experts confirmed the useless of law No.120 of 2008 related to the establishment of the economic courts as the law will prove its failure as soon as putting into effect on the next of October 2008 besides that the judiciary system will be confused . It violates the guarantees of judiciary power represented in judiciary independence and judiciary unit and equality before judiciary .Also the government enacted the law without discussing it with specialists ,so it came to express about a single point of view as similar to other laws and legislations .

Abu Fana monastery …. What happened?
Abu Fana monastery witnessed a verbal altercation between a group of clerics at the monastery and a number of residents in the area concerning the right to possess a plot of lands adjacent to the monastery .Differences of point of views evolved among the disputed parties until it reached the exchange of fire bullets and using batons the matter which led to the death of “Khalil Ibrahim Mohammed” ,citizen , and the injury of others and the arrest of 19 persons who were accused of committing a number of charges according to the police record
number 53128-2008.

FIDH and EOHR is pleased to announce that it is holding a press conference on Thursday June 19th at 11 am in the Egyptian Press Syndicate on the occasion of the release of the 2007 Annual Report of the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders.
The speakers for the conference will be Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, Secretary General of the Egyptian organization for Human Rights as well as Ms. Stephanie David, Director of FIDH Middle East and North Africa Desk.
