The Egyptian Organization For Human Rights (EOHR) will hold a seminar entitled “Towards a new law on the exercise of political rights” on Wednesday 21/4/2010 at 5:00 PM at EOHR’s office. The seminar will include a group of members of People’s Assembly and Shura Council, representatives of political parties and human rights activists and a group of specialists.
Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, chairman of EOHR clarified that the seminar aimed at showing the defects of Law No. 73 of 1956 on the exercise of political rights as amended by Law No. 173 of 2005 which is not in a line with the principles and standards of human rights, Abu Seada added that during the seminar a new law on the exercise of political rights will be put forth as a substitution to the current law aiming at ensuring the right of citizen to manage the public affair as the current law imposed several restrictions including the executive authority’s domination over all the stages of the electoral process.
