The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) will hold a seminar entitled” Towards a future without the state of emergency” on Tuesday 18/5/2010 at 2:00 PM at EOHR’s office. The seminar will include a group of law professors, a number of members of People’s Assembly and Shura Council and representatives of political parties and political forces and civil society activists. The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) expresses its deepest worries on the extension of Emergency Law for two years which contradicts with the voluntary pledges submitted by the Egyptian government on the abolition of the state of emergency as soon as issuing a new law to combat terrorism. On Monday, 10/5/2010 the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights(EOHR) held a meeting attended by a group of human rights activists in the international and Iraqi organizations who praised the reports of EOHR and its efforts to protect human rights, they expressed their intention to continue the dialogue in the coming period between the Egyptian organizations and their counterparts in Arab States and amending the Charter of the Arab League and to activate the role of the Commission of Human rights in it. The Public Prosecution of Mid Cairo heard the testimony of Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, chairman of EOHR in case No. 2428-2010- Administrative Qasr Al-Nil which was filed by Abu Seada against Mr. Nashaat Al Kassas, member of the parliament. Chairman of EOHR gave his testimony as an Egyptian citizen and a head of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, pointing out that the member of the parliament intended to direct the Ministry of Interior to use force and firearms against peaceful demonstrators and he repeated this statement in one of TV programs, a Compact Disc was submitted including an intervention of the member of People’s Assembly. The Egyptian Organization For Human Rights (EOHR) has received a letter from “Mr. Abdullah Yassin”, prosecutor of Middle Cairo on Tuesday 4-5-2010, asking “Mr. Hafez Abu Seada”, chairman of EOHR, to attend the session of Sunday 9/5/2010 at 10:00 AM at middle Cairo Prosecution, located at South Cairo First Instance Court to hear his testimony in case No. 2428 of 2010 -administrative -Kasr El Nile, which was brought by Mr. Hafez Abu Seada against Nashaat El Kassas, member of the parliament. EOHR expresses its condemnation to the detention of Ahmed Saad Doma during the peaceful demonstration on Monday 3-5-2010 at the downtown in Cairo in front of Omar Makram’s Mosque, in a clear violation to the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of opinion and expression , that peaceful demonstration was called by some of the MPs, public figures and political activists. Doma was referred to the public prosecution on 4/5/2010 which accused him in the report no. 4222 of sneaking into the demonstration in order to disable the provisions of the law, disturb public security, overcoming the authorities and attacking state’s property, and so the prosecution decided to sentence him to 4 days imprisonment pending investigation. The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR)and the Permanent Peace Movement (PPM)in Lebanon express their severe condemnation on the lynch of Mohamed Selim, Egyptian citizen in Ketermaya – Lebanon by the angry mob. EOHR calls the Lebanese government for taking urgent actions and legal procedures on the lynch of the Egyptian citizen and referring police officers and citizens responsible for this crime to the investigation. On 3/5/2010 October Misdemeanor Court sentenced three officers of 6th October police station to one month imprisonment with labor and a fine of 200 L.E per each and compel them to pay 501 L.E for the provisional civil compensation in the case No. 11933-299 of torturing Shadi Maged Zaghloul Ibrahim, Egyptian citizen.
