EOHR expresses its deep concern about detaining 1120 persons from Tuesday 25/01/2011 till Thursday 27/01/2011 in 9 governorates (Cairo, Suez, Alexandria, Dakahlia, Gharbia, Northern Sinai, Ismailia, Fioum, Assiut) and the investigation with 200 demonstrators before the Public Prosecutor in 6 governorates (Cairo, Menoufia, Dakahlia, Suez, Alexandria, Kafr El Shiekh), calling the Public Prosecutor to release all the detainees immediately.
EOHR lawyers, who have followed up the investigations with the demonstrators on Thursday 28/01/201, stated that Kasr El Nil Prosecution in the record No. 686 has accused the demonstrators with assembly aiming at violating the laws and distributing the state institutions, attacking police officers and preventing them from performing their jobs, causing injuries to the police men which leads to the death of Ahmed Aziz, intentional vandalism to public buildings and disabling the transportation system.
Damietta Prosecution accused the detainees in the record No. 424 for 2011with assembly and traffic disruption, violating constitution, incitement to the hatred of the regime and raising banners that would disturb public security.
Mr. Hafez Abu Seada the chairman of EOHR called for the immediate release of all the detainees who were exercising their constitutional rights in peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
