The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights Demands the Immediate Release of 47 Sinai Detainees in Hunger Strike

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights expresses its grave concern regarding the continued detention of 47 political detainees from Sinai in the prison of Al Aqrab, one of the prisons of Turra. They have gone on an open hunger strike since 19/2/2011 until not protesting the continuance of their detention. EOHR thus demands their immediate release in fear for their lives.

This step comes in spite of the confirmations from the former interior minister that the case of detainees from Sinai is almost over and even though he issued a decision to release the detainees.

EOHR has received a phone call from inside the Al Aqrab prison on Thursday, 3/3/20111 which states that about 47 political detainees have gone on an open hunger strike since 19/2/2011 until now protesting their continued detention. Those 47 political detainees are the following:

Within that context, EOHR is demanding the Supreme Council of Armed Forces to immediately release the mentioned above like other Sinai detainees. It also renews its demands of the necessity of releasing all political detainees who have been repeatedly detained in violation of the provisions of the law, the constitution and the sanctity of judicial rulings.
