The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights calls for the immediate release of 160 protesters

May 17th, 2011 by Editor

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) expresses its worry towards the unreasonable power used by the army and police forces against those who went on a peaceful protest in front of the Israeli embassy in Giza on May 15, 2011. 353 protesters were injured and 160 were arrested and referred to the military prosecution. EOHR calls for releasing the arrested protesters and referring them to the prosecution general office.

A peaceful demonstration on May 15, 2011, started in Tahrir Square and moved to the Israeli Embassy headquarters in Giza, responding the call of many activists on the internet to memorize the Palestinian Intifada. The military and police forces ended the protest.

In this regard, Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of EOHR called for the immediate release of the protesters and dropping the charges, emphasizing the right of assembly and the right of expression according to the international standards of human rights.
