The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) denounces stopping Dr. Amr Al Shobky, an expert in Al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, a member of the National Council for Human Rights, for investigation, in Cairo International Airport, on September 24, 2011.
Al Shobky attended a conference held by the Arab Organization for Corruption Confrontation on the Arab spring in Lebanon. He talked about the challenges of the Egyptian revolution within the last session. During his return from Lebanon on September 24, 2011, the passport officer took his passport for investigation then he allowed his to leave, the procedure that was usually done before the revolution.
Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of EOHR, stated that stopping people for investigation is not allowed unless they are accused of illegal practices. If there is not any charges, the stop would be such a sever violation of human rights. It does not comply with the international standards and covenants, signed by the Egyptian government.
In this concern, EOHR calls the Egyptian government for stopping these abuses against the political activists, writers and thinkers. The abovementioned situation belongs to such a significant political researcher.
