On October 17, 2011, 12 pm, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) holds a press conference under the title of “Who murdered General Mohammed Al Batran”, in order to declare the details of the report drafted by the fact finding committee, launched to observe and document his murder. The report tackles very important issues like the absence of security forces from the streets countrywide and prevalence of violence and thuggish acts everywhere in Egypt following opening the prisons’ gates on January 28, 2011. Armed groups also attacked the prisons countrywide to set their relatives free, after exchanging fire with the prisons’ guards.
The report observes and documents the details of killing General Al Batran, the head of Prisons’ Sector, Egyptian Ministry of Interior, in Katta Prison, on January 29, 2011, when he refused allowing opening the gates and escaping prisoners and detainees in order to take the country to massive chaos.
Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of EOHR, stated that the police withdrawal from important locations and opening prisons leaded to terrifying and frightening all the Egyptian people. It was a step taken by the corruption members to oblige the protesters to get home and stop calling for change.
