Report 7: Preliminary results on the run for parliamentary elections

The eighth day for receiving candidacy applications for the parliamentary elections witnessed application of political parties in the governorates. The observers of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) stated that 3390 applied for the independent list of the people’s Assembly and 17 applied for the political parties’ list, 495 applied for the independent list of the Shura Council and only one list countrywide, from the beginning of the candidacy date until the eighth day. On the eighth day, 371 applied for the independent list of the People’s Assembly and 8 political parties’ lists. For Shura Council, 103 applied for the independent list and one political party’s list as follows:

In Kena, 14 candidates applied to the independent list of the People’s Assembly and 4 applied for Shura Council. Al Ghad Political Party submitted 2 lists including 4 members, in addition to another list submitted by Al Etihaf Political Party.

In Alexandria, 39 candidates submitted applications for the independent list of the people’s Assembly and Al Nor Salafi Political Party submitted applications for 3 lists including a woman, Hanan Mohammed Atia for the first constituency and 10 candidates for the second constituency including a woman, Mervat Abdel Ati Mohamed. Al Etihad Political Party submitted a list including 10 candidates for the People’s Assembly, also including a woman, Reham Abdel Moniem. Justice and Freedom Political Party submitted applications for 6 candidates for the independent list of the People’s Assembly.

In Gharbia, 14 applied for the independent list of the People’s Assembly to take the total number of candidates to 153 and 6 candidates for Shura Council to take the total number of candidates to 12.

In Bani Suef, 5 candidates applied to move from the independent list to the political parties’ list, including Ali Radi Mosa, Ali Abdel All Awad and Ahmed Mohamed Al Nahal.

In South Sinai, 2 candidates applied for the independent list of the People’s Assembly, Ouda Soliman Eid Salem and Megahed Al Sayed Salem, to take the total parliamentary candidates to 34. 8 candidates applied for Shura Council.

In Sharkia, 11 candidates applied for the independent list of the People’s Assembly including 3 former members of the dismantled National Democratic Party, Hani Eid, Abdollah Al Ghandor and Talal Ayoub. Nobody applied for Shura Council.

In Damietta, only Helmy Al laban applied for the independent list of the People’s Assembly, a member of the dismantled National Democratic Party.

In Suez, 10 candidates applied for the political parties’ list of the People’s Assembly including Ahmed Fatehy, the coordinator of the Revolutionary Youth Political Party.
