The difficulties of obtaining the candidate representatives’ authorizations might cause Invalidity of the election process

The Egyptian Coalition for Election Observation and the Egyptian Association for Community Participation Enhancement express worry for the difficulties of obtaining the candidate representatives’ authorizations for the parliamentary elections. One of the candidates stated that when he went to one of the branch headquarters of the High Egyptian Commission for Elections to obtain authorizations for his representatives in the polling stations, the officials there informed him that he must have an official letter from a police station providing that he is a candidate. Actually the police stations are not the suitable places for issuing this kind of letters. They asked him also to obtain authorizations for the representatives from the Civil Registry Authority. Once the candidate obtains the abovementioned documents, he could get to the branch headquarters of the commission to obtain the required authorizations.
The required procedures take long, when three days are only left before the voting day. These complicated procedures are considered as obstacles to the electoral process.
In this concern, the Egyptian Coalition for Election Observation and the Egyptian Association for Community Participation Enhancement call for accelerating the procedures of obtaining the candidate representatives’ authorizations for the parliamentary elections or it might cause Invalidity of the election process.
