Forcible police raid against ACIJLP

In an unprecedented event, since the establishment of the Arab Center for Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP) in 1997, the headquarters of the ACIJLP exposed to an attack similar to armed robbery on Thursday, December 29th, 2011. In addition to, confiscating eight computers devices, hundreds of files related to the ACIJLP’s activities, retaining all the ACIJLP’s staff from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and isolating them from the outside world during the inspection of the ACIJLP’s headquarters by various authorities, including members from the public prosecution, special forces and criminal investigation officers under the full siege of the building in which the ACIJLP’s headquarters is located and preventing the entry or exit of anyone to or from the building. The Military Court of Cassation approved the claim of Adel Fattouh Al Gazzar

The Military Court of Cassation accepted the claim of Adel Fattouh Al Gazzar for the re-trial. Hafez Abu Seada, attorney at law, submitted the claim after Adel was sentenced three years in prison. Ferocious attack against local and international civil society organizations

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) and the undersigned civil society organizations denounce the ferocious attack against many human rights and development NGOs in order to deter these bodies from implementing their cultural and human rights’ defense efforts. The headquarters of the Arab Center for Judiciary Independence was stormed on December 29, 2011 by security and military troops and South Cairo Prosecutor General. The troops confiscated all the accounting and foreign relation documents, related to the center’s projects and activities in addition to 7 computers. Cairo Criminal Court postponed the trial of Mubarak and his aides

On December 28, 2011, Cairo Criminal Court postponed the trial of the former president Hosni Mubarak, General Habeb Al Adly, the former Minister of Interior and six of his aides, to January 2, 2012. Before two months, one of those who claim the civil rights of the victim protesters asked for changing the jurisdiction. The amendment of parliamentary laws violates the sacredness of court decisions

In the framework of emphasizing the sacredness of the court verdicts, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) denounces the proposal of the High Juridical Commission for Elections to amend article 9, law no. 38, year 1972 of the People’s Assembly. The proposal submitted on December 27, 2011, also included amendment of Shura Council code no. 120, year 1980. The proposed amendments stated that the decisions of the administrative courts are not applied, if issued after the specified period, no more than 7 days after the electoral process. A new court verdict against the freedom of expression

On December 26, 2011, Al Waily Misdemeanor Court gave Gaber Sayed Gaber Abdel Haq one year sentence, LE 200 fine in addition to payment of the trial expenditures. Gaber was charged with distribution of publications against national peace and security during participation in the protest organized last Friday, December 23, 2011, in Abbasia. EOHR received a reasoned US response on rejecting the release of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman

Following the statement issued by the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) in November, 2011, the organization received a response from the US Ambassador in Egypt, Mrs. Anne W. Patterson, on rejection of the release of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, on medical-deterioration basis. The rejection response stated that”the US Federal Prison System has gone to great lengths to provide Mr. Omar Abdel Rahman with the best possible medical care, specifically: Mr. Abdel Rahman’s medical conditions are being managed appropriately and he is medically stable; he is regularly evaluated by a team of healthcare professionals, including a physician, a physician assistant and a registered nurse.” Read the rest of this entry »

Preliminary report on the observation mission of the Egyptian Coalition for Electoral Observation

On December 22, 2011, the marathon of the Egyptian People’s Assembly elections in the second phase, second round was resumed in Giza, Menoufia, Sharkia, Ismailia, Bani Suef, Suez, Behaira, Sohag and Aswan Governorates. The polling centers witnessed continuous campaigning made by Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Parties in addition to group transport, group voting, mistakes within the voter list, absence of phosphoric ink and electoral fraud.
