Preliminary report on the observation mission of the Egyptian Coalition for Electoral Observation

On December 15, 2011, the Egyptian People’s Assembly election process in the second phase continued with electoral fraud in the polling stations no. 996 and 997 in Al Saf School for Girls in Giza. The coalition observers documented declarations made by female voters saying that the ballots were checked for the independent candidate Naser Maher and the list of Freedom and Justice Political Party. The occurrence leaded to verbal clashes and that leaded in its turn to closing the concerned polling stations at 1.30 pm. The observer of the Egyptian Coalition was banned from entering the abovementioned polling stations; such behavior naturally induces suspicions on what was going on and also threatens the principals of fairness and transparency of the electoral process there. Following the clashes, the security and military troops’ numbers increased in the polling center to end the any forthcoming clashes.
