LE 300-price of a vote in North Sinai

On January 4, 2012, the voting process continued on the second day for the last parliamentary election phase in Menia, Kalyoubia, Gharbia, Dakhlia, New Valley, Matrouh, Kena, North and South Sinai. Voting runs in other 5 constituencies, in which voting was cancelled in the first and second phases, based on court decisions. The constituencies include Moharam Bek in Alexandria, Al Fateh and Dirot in Assuit, Al Sahel in Cairo and constituency 5 in Sharkia. 

The voting process during the third phase witnessed many electoral violations including late opening of polling stations, electoral campaigning for Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Parties, banning the witnesses of the civil society organizations and candidates’ representatives from entering polling centers. Electoral bribes and recycle ballots were observed too.

Documented electoral violations until 3 pm:

First: electoral campaigning:

The coalition observers documented electoral campaigning at Monshat Al Fikria School in Abu Karkas for Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Parties.

In South Sinai, campaigning materials were found in Abu Zenima School for Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Party.

In kalyoubia, one of the independent candidates was promoted in Shubra House School, polling stations no. 813 and 814.

In North Sinai, the observers of the Egyptian coalition documented campaigning materials in Romana Primary School for Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Parties.

In Gharbia, the Egyptian coalition observers found campaigning materials in Huria School in Abu Shahin in Mahala for Freedom and Justice, Al Wafd, the Egyptian Bloc and Al Nor Political Parties.

In Dakhlia, campaigning materials were in Imam Mohamed Abdo and Khaled Al Tokhy Schools for one of the independent candidates.

Second: electoral bribes

One of the candidates of Freedom and Justice Political Party bout votes at LE 50 each, in Al Gel Al Gadid School, North Sinai. A lady was buying a vote at LE 300 in Abu Bakr Al Sedek School in Aresh for Freedom and Justice Political Party.

In Kalyoubia, a vote was sold at LE 100 in Al Hurria Al Gadida in Nai, kalyoub for Freedom and Justice Political Party.

A vote was sold for LE 100 in badr Preparatory School in South Sinai for the Egyptian Bloc. Al Nor Political party’s supporters also distributed money among voters to vote for the party.

Third: banning representatives of NGOs:

The civil society organizations’ witnesses were banned from entering the polling station no. 389 in Monshat Al Fikria School in Abu karkas, Minia and polling stations no. 105, 106, 107 and 108 in Sayeda Aisha School in Marsa Matrouh. They were also banned from entering polling stations no. 79 and 80 in Al Bakashin Primary School in Kafr Shokr.

Fourth: problems in polling stations:

The Egyptian coalition observers documented one of the officials directing voters to vote for Freedom and Justice Political Party.

In Kalyoubia, the supervising judge was distributing only the list of independent candidates only, polling station no. 757 and 758, Refat Al Saudi School, Sendion.

Fifth: group transport:

Car no. 20932 was transporting voters to Monshat Al Fekria School in Abu Karkas, Minia, to vote for Al Nor Political Party.

Car no. 7015 was transporting voters to vote for one of the independent candidates in Al Sad Al Ali School, Kalyoubia.

Sixth: electoral fraud:

The revolving ballot was monitored in Al Gel Al Gaded Primary School in North Sinai for Freedom and Justice Political Party. The same situation was found in the polling stations no. 257 and 258 in Meet Al Karma School in Talkha and the polling station no. 535 at the Islamic Institute in Meet Al Karma Also for Al Nor Political Party.  

Seventh: thuggish acts:

Clashes took place in Abu Bakr Al Seddek School in Aresh, North Sinai between the Supporters of Al Nor and Freedom and Justice Political Party. One of the supporters of Freedom and Justice Political Party destroyed the laptop of Al Nor’s supporter. The supporters of Freedom and Justice Political Party clashed also with the military troops.

Eighth: controlling voters:

The observers of the Egyptian coalition monitored dismissing the representative of Freedom and Justice Political Party from Abdel Maged Salim School in Mahala, Gharbia, following controlling the voters to vote for his party.

Ninth: banning voting: 

The supervising judge banned women from voting in the polling stations no. 815 and 816, Sheikh Sebika Primary School, Minia

Tenth: verbal clashes:

The Egyptian coalition witnesses documented verbal clashes between the supporters of Freedom and Justice Political Party and the supporters of an independent candidate, Samalot Agricultural School, Minia.

Eleventh: closing polling stations:

The supervising judge closed the polling stations no. 79 and 80 in Al Bakashin Primary School in kafr Shokr, Kalyoubia, for an hour.
