Supporters of Freedom and Justice and Al Nor clashed in Minia

The second phase of Shura Council Elections started on February 14, 2012 in 14 governorates including Giza, Aswan, Luxor, Suez, Behaira, matrouh, Minia, Sohag, Bani Suef, Ismailia, Port Said, Kafr El Sheikh, Kalyoubia and Sharkia. Within this phase, 536 political parties’ candidates are competing for 60 seats and 891 independent candidates are competing for 30 seats.

The observers of the Egyptian Coalition for Electoral Observation documented many electoral violations like late opening of polling stations, campaigning materials for Reform and Development, Al Wafd, Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Parties. The observers also documented electoral problems like the absence of phosphoric ink and thuggish acts in Bani Suef and Minia.

Electoral violations documented by the observers of the Egyptian coalition until 12 Pm:

First: late opening of polling stations:

The polling stations in the Agricultural School in desok, Kafr Al Sheikh, opened at 9.30 am.

In Luxor, the polling stations in Kaman Al Mataina School opened at 9.30 am.

In Minia, the polling station no. 1088 in Al Gala Primary School opened at 10.30 am.

Second: electoral campaigning:

One of the independent candidates was promoted in Kafr Ramada School Complex in Minia. Freedom and Justice and Al Nor Political Parties were promoted in the polling station no. 805 in Dehmro Village.

In Suez, the observers documented campaigning materials in Sami Al Barodi School, Al Arbain District, for Freedom and Justice Political Party.

In Sharkia, campaigning materials for one of the independent candidates were found in Al Husseinia Al Sharkia School for Girls.

Third: electoral problems:

There were typing mistakes at the candidate lists in Minia; the candidates’ list included 52 instead of 59.

The phosphoric ink did not exist in Kafr Ramada School Complex in Minia and the polling station no. 204 at the Military School for Girls in Bani Suef and Abdel Maged Hamid School in Aswan.

Fourth: thuggish acts:

The supporters of Al Nor and Freedom and Justice Political Parties clashed in Al Bagor Primary School in El Edwa in Minia. One of the supporters of Freedom and Justice Political Party was injured in the head. The same situation took place in Um Al Abtal School in Abu Karkas.

Fifth: group transport:

In Um Al Abtal School in Abu Karkas, Minia, the observers of the Egyptian coalition documented existence of a microbus without no. transporting voters to vote for Al Nor Political Party and the same situation took place in Bani Suef, polling station no. 752, Beba, where a microbus without no. was transporting voters to vote for the Egyptian Bloc.

Sixth: electoral bribes:

The supporters of Al Nor Political party were distributing hot meals among the voters in the polling stations 1056 to 1063 at the Secondary School in Bani Mazar, Minia.
