Alexandria Criminal Court postponed the trial of Sayed Belal to march 17, 2012 for receving the witnesses’ statements. The lawyers of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) followed up the court session on February 19, 2012, in attendance of the accused person Mohamed Abdel Rahman Shemi Soliman, known as Ala Zidan, but the other four accused persons were absent. The other accused persons are Hussam Ibrahim Mohamed Reda Al Shinnawy, Ossama Mahmoud Abdel Moniem Al Koniesy, Ahmed Mostafa Kamel, known as Adham Al badry and Mahmoud Abdel Aliem Mahmoud Ali.
On January 4, 2011, Sayed Belal, Salafi Islamist, was arrested by the State Security Police, Security Directorate of Alexandria, for questioning, as usual. On January 12, 2011, Sayed Belal’s family received a phone call from Keleh Medical Center to attend for receiving his dead body. The officials at the medical center informed the family members that two unknown persons brought the dead body there. The family found signs of torture on the victim’s dead body, which raised doubts about torturing him until death. So, the family members filed the lawsuit no. 88, year 2011, accusing the State Security Police officers of murdering Sayed Belal.
