On April 23, 2012, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) holds a meeting for discussing the governmental draft law of the local and international civil society organizations. The meeting will be held at the headquarters of EOHR, 12 pm.

The Egyptian Ministry of Social Insurance declared preparation of an amended draft of the law no. 84, year 2002. The governmental amended draft was declared, while many of the local and international civil society organizations came under one of the most aggressive defamation campaigns.

Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of EOHR, stated that while most of the world countries empower the civil society organizations, NGOs are violently attacked in Egypt. NGOs in Egypt have to be empowered exactly like those in the other world countries, especially after the Egyptian evolution. The Egyptian legislative structure has to be modified in order to set the NGOs in Egypt free. The amendment of the NGOs law must come as a result of expanded dialogues between the Egyptian authorities and the leaders of NGOs, in order to achieve the intended role of law and democracy.
