EOHR calls for licensing Al Alam Satellite Channel

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) is worry for freezing activities of Al Alam Satellite Channel for having no license for implementing media coverage activities in Egypt. On May 13, 2012, the Iranian channel headquarters was raided by the police and most of its broadcasting equipments were confiscated. Ahmed Al Seyoufi, the channel manager in Cairo used the channel website http://www.alalam.ir/news and face book account www.facebook.com/alalamarabic, to declare getting under police raid and document also confiscation of cameras, montage and broadcasting equipments. The raid also covered some studios, which cooperate with the Iranian channel. The police filed reports for the channel manager and some of the staff members.

In this concern, EOHR call for issuing media coverage licenses, as soon as possible, to the satellite channels working in Egypt, including Al Alam Channel. The Egyptian authorities should confirm full respect to the freedom of expression and the right to have access to public information, especially after the Egyptian revolution.
