The Egyptian Federation for Election Observation has complained against late opening of polling stations countrywide

On May 23, 2012, the Egyptian Federation for Election Observation submitted an official complaint to the Supreme Juridical Presidential Election Commission against late opening of polling stations in different governorates until the afternoon. The Egyptian Federation for Election Observation has got 1600 local monitors

Within the press conference held on May 22, 2012, at the headquarters of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, the Egyptian Federation for Election Observation welcomes the new procedures of the Supreme Presidential Election Commission against the rotating door and other aspects of fraud in addition to increasing the number of ballot boxes and numbering the boxes’ locks. Amendment of the Supreme Constitutional Court’s law

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) refuses the proposal of amendment for the Supreme Constitutional Court’s law no. 48, year 1979. On May 15, 2012, the Complaints and Proposals’ Committee of the People’s Assembly received the proposal submitted by two parliamentarians from Al Nour Salafi Political Party and referred the law to the Legislative Committee for discussion. EOHR welcomes the release of Egyptian fishermen in Libya

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) welcomes the release of Egyptian fishermen yesterday, who disappeared in Libya in April 2012. On May 9, 2012, EOHR received a complaint in which the complainer said on April 24, 2012, two Egyptian fishing boats with 23 fishermen were attached with an armed Libyan boat. The Egyptian fishermen were kept in Darana Port for two days then the kidnapers called for 50.000 dinars in order to release the detainees. 9 of the detainees could escape later and get back to Egypt. The families of the kidnapped people complained to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to set them free, but in vain. Read the rest of this entry »

Abu Seada calls for adapting the definition of torture with the International Convention

Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) stated that the Egyptian penal code includes many controversies. It includes many articles facilitate impunity. He called for amendment of article 126 of the Egyptian penal code in order to comply with article 2 of the International Convention against Torture “Each State Party shall make these offenses punishable by appropriate penalties which take into account their grave nature”. He called also for issuing legislations mentioning the right of filing lawsuits against those who get people under torture in order to give confessions in police stations and detention centers in addition to forcible detention.
