EOHR Launches its Campaign to Free Naglaa Wafa

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights gravely condemns the ruling of Saudi Arabian Authorities to flagellate Egyptian national, Ms. Naglaa Wafa.  EOHR denounces this as a blatant violation of the human right to the safety of body and person as well as a violation of the right to fair trial.  EOHR demands the immediate release of Ms. Wafa for fear of endangering her life. ANHRI and EOHR held the Media Training Workshop, titled “Professionalism in Media Coverage of the Transitional Period on August 9, 2012

Arabic Network for Human Rights Information and the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights have completed the second round of workshops on professional media ethics.  Last Thursday, on the 9th of August, The second training workshop oriented towards media ethics in “Covering the New Egyptian Republic,” was held as a continuation of a previous workshop that took place at ANHRI’s headquarters on the 27th of June, 2012.  The topic of that workshop centered on media ethics in the press during the coverage of elections. “Al Farrain” Satellite Channel closed for 45 Days in Violation of the Freedom of Expression

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights strongly condemns the recent warning issued to the “Al Farrain” Satellite Channel, keeping it off air for a consecutive period of 45 days, and threatening to revoke the channel’s license if it’s “transgressions” persist.  This followed immediately after the channel’s Chairman, Mr. Tawfeeq Okasha, verbally threatened the Egyptian President, Pr. Mohamed Morsi.  The Decision to halt the channel’s operations is, in essence, a blatant violation of broadcasting freedoms, thereby stifling a primary source of news and information.  Moreover, it is by extension a blatant violation of the international conventions on both broadcasting rights and the open exchange of information.  Read the rest of this entry »

EOHR and ANHRI Announce Results of Media Monitoring Project

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights and the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information announce the results of their media monitoring project that observed the performance of several electronic news sources and several sports channels over a two week period.  The project sought to monitor and measure the pluralism and objectivity of these media sources in their representation of information to the public immediately after the political transfer of power.  The report covered the period from July 15th – July 31st and monitored the performance of the following media sources.  Read the rest of this entry »

EOHR Condemns the Targeting of Egyptian Soldiers at the Rafah Border

                The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) strongly condemns the terrorist attacks of late Sunday evening, targeting Egyptian security forces along the Rafah border area of northeast Sinai.  The perpetrators of the incident opened gunfire on Egyptian military service men killing sixteen and critically wounding seven.  Read the rest of this entry »
