EOHR asserts on the legitimacy of peaceful demonstrations, while asking for protecting diplomatic missions

EOHR expresses its deep concern over the exceeding violence in the Egyptian streets surrounding the American embassy, where the violence has erupted due to the protests over the prophet insulting movie, between the protesters and the security forces, in the surrounding of the American embassy.

In this regard, EOHR is stressing upon the legitimacy of the peaceful demonstrations and assembly guaranteed by international accords and conventions concerned with human rights. However, EOHR ensures the necessity of the peacefulness of any kind of expression or assembly, with the guarantee of the safety and without any exposure to the diplomatic missions. As for that, EOHR expresses its denial for any attack took place against the American embassy in Cairo, refusing any kind of harming to any diplomatic missions.

In mean time, EOHR asserts on the responsibility of the security forces for protecting and keeping safe of the diplomatic missions and personnel, according to the international conventions’ articles concerned with protecting diplomatic missions.

It is worth mentioning that EOHR has condemned the prophet insulting movie, for its incitement to hatred, where EOHR doesn’t consider the movie as any kind of freedom of expression.
