On Wednesday, October 3, 2012, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) submitted the official complaint no. 3691, year 2012, to the prosecutor general office against the head of Sout Al Shaab Satellite Channel, one of the state TV channels as well as the Egyptian Minister of media; Sout Al Shab broadcasted the 2-hour conference of the Freedom and Justice Political Party, which take us to the practices of the dismantled national Democratic Party, during Mubarak era. EOHR called for investigating this incident of using the state tools for promoting one political party and ignoring the others, which comes under the financial and administrative finance umbrella.
The complainer, Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of EOHR, within his complaint asked if any other political party can do the same; he asked also if Freedom and Justice paid the broadcasting fees or not. A second costs LE 5000 during the rush hours.
The state TV comes under the umbrella of the public properties. So, this kind of broadcasting is criminalized according to the article no. 113 of the Egyptian penal code, “easing stealing public properties.”
