EOHR Calls upon Prosecutor General to Investigate Torturing Azhar Students

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) denounces torturing Ahmed Ragab Ahmed Hassan, student of the School of Medicine, Azhar University, Assuit Branch. Ahmed Ragab and his mates came under torture and ill-treatment at Awal Assuit Police Station. In this regard, EOHR calls upon the prosecutor general and the Egyptian Minister of interior to open an immediate investigation on the severe physical torture incident. Read the rest of this entry »

Threatening Justice in Egypt

On April 24, 2013, the Egyptian organization for Human Rights (EOHR) has issued a report entitled “Threatening Justice in Egypt” discussing the crisis of the Egyptian judiciary after the Egyptian revolution. The crisis began with reducing the number of the Supreme Constitutional Court’s members without any justifications, although it is known that elimination of some judges was targeted. Increasing crackdown on fundamental freedoms

FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights) deplores the increasing crackdown against freedom of expression in Egypt and is alarmed to recall that if under the 30 year rule of former president Hosni Mubarak, 4 cases were filed for “insulting the President”, during the first 6 months of President Morsy’s rule alone, at least 24 cases and complaints have been filed, 3 of them filed by the Egyptian Presidency itself, against journalists and political opponents. Hesba Lawsuits Terrorize Media Specialists and Threaten Freedom of Expression
