EOHR demands the president of the Republic to cancel the amendment of the law on remand

EOHR expresses its deep concern about the presidential decree, amending some provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law promulgated by Law No. 150/1950 regarding remand and custody, which overruled the maximum term of detention; that is a maximum of two years. The Criminal Court in Cairo preserves the case of torturing 5 citizens to pass its verdict.

The Criminal Court in Cairo has decided to preserve the case of prosecuting 3 state security police officers, who are accused of detaining 5 citizens, stripping their clothes off, and torturing them based the intention of obtaining confessions from them about joining prohibited groups. Civil Society Representatives: The draft law is a positive step forward and civil society association needs every support available.

The meeting participants have examined a copy of the draft of the new law of NGOs, and they have agreed that the draft law reflects the demands of civil society associations; especially that the committee formed to propose the draft law is made up of civil society representatives from civil, developmental, and service organizations. EOHR holds a consultative meeting with civil society representatives next Tuesday.

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights will hold a meeting with civil society organizations’ representatives to discuss the draft law of civil society associations, proposed by the high committee formed by the Ministry of Social solidarity. Abu Seada from the Police Academy: Improving the security system depends on the application of international conventions on human rights

EOHR demands the prompt arrest and the urgent trial of the perpetrators of Al-Salhya incident.

The Organization expresses its grave concern regarding the operation of targeting military patrols, within the framework of the organized violence that has swept the country after the 30th of June Revolution. As, a military patrol in Al-Salhya City was exposed to gunshot resulting in the death of a Police Lt., Mohamed Abd Al-Karim Ahmed by gunfire, and the injury of a Police Captain, Khaled Mohamed Zaki, a police assistant called Atta Abdou and a police recruit called Abu Al-Naga Fathi; they were transferred to Al-Kasasen Military Hospital. EOHR demands a prompt investigation of the incident of the death of a French citizen inside Kasr El-Nile Police Station

EOHR condemns the death of a French citizen inside Kasr Al-Nile Police Station, referring to a criminal suspicion related to the death incident. The Organization also demands the Egyptian government to respect international conventions on human rights, ratified by Egypt, as well as providing a minimum amount of humane treatment for the detainees inside police stations and prisons, and protecting them from any assaults.
