The Regional Union in Cairo holds a workshop next Thursday to discuss the proposed NGO law draft

The Regional Union in Cairo is holding a workshop next Thursday November 7, 2013 at ten in the morning to discuss the NGO law draft proposed by the High Committee formed by the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The Workshop will be held at the headquarters of Al-Ahram Newspaper.

The High Committee formed by the Ministry of Social Solidarity has completed the draft of the proposed law of associations to amend Act No. 84/2002, and has it raised it to a community dialogue for a poll on NGOs opinion concerning the proposed law.

In addition,  Hafez Abu Saada, president of EOHR and the General Coordinator of the Committee, has explained that the process of drafting a new law for NGOs is one of the demands of the revolutions of the twenty-fifth of January and the thirtieth of June; therefore the importance of the law comes in the light of these developments, and it’s very important that the new law is compatible with relvant international conventions and this law aslo should guarantee the right to peaceful assembly and association.

The floor in th workshop will be given to the following speakers, Hafez Abu Saada, Chairman of the Committee who is in charge of drafting the law and a member of the National Council for Human Rights, Nejad Al- Bor’ee head of the United Group and a member of the National Council for Human Rights, and Talaat Abdel Qawi President of the General Union of Associations and representative of the NGO Committee session.
