EOHR condemns the bombing of Al Botroseya Church
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) condemns in the strongest words the explosion that took place in Al Botroseya Church which is linked to the St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral complex which also happens to host the papal seat. The attack led to the death of 25 people, and the injury of 31. Most of the victims are women and children.
EOHR offers its deepest condolences to the families of the vicitms, and stresses the importance of an immediate and serious investigation of this crime, and demands the arrest and just trial of those responsible for this act.
Hafez Abu Seada the president of EOHR condemned the attack, stressing that such attacks target human rights and the foundations of the Egyptian state. Abu Seada added that unity and solidarity among all political and social forces as well as civil society is essential so that terrorism can be confronted and stopped. Abu Seada also called upon the security services to detect and arrest the terrorists who commited this crime, so that they can stand trial and be held accountable for their crimes. Abu Seada also urged the government to provide adequate protection and security for places of worship, especially churches which have become common targets for acts of terror and violence.
