EOHR condemns the terrorist attack on the Nasr City ring road

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights condemns the attack on police patrol in Cairo, which led to the death of three policemen and the injury of 5 others.
The attack took place near midnight on Monday May 1st. Armed militants approached the police patrol near the ring road in Nasr City and opened fire. The attack led to the death of Captain Mohamed El Sayed, Captain Ayman Refaat, and non commissioned officer Shaban Abdul Hamid. The attack also injured 5 other policemen.
EOHR conveys its condolences to the families of the victims and to all Egyptians. EOHR stresses that such attacks are a grave violation of human rights, especially the rights to life and security.
Dr. Hafez Abu Seada the president of EOHR demanded that the perpetrators be held accountable. He also stressed that its essential that the government’s counter terrorism measures don’t come at the expense of human rights, adding that respecting human rights is an integral part of any efficient counter terrorism strategy.
