EOHR condemns the Israeli assault on

 Egyptian Coptic Christian priests in East Jerusalem

On the morning of October 24th, 2018, a group of Coptic Christian priests staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the Deir Al Sultan monastery in Jerusalem to protest unauthorized Israeli renovation of the sight. The priests however were not allowed to exercise their right to peaceful assembly as Israeli law enforcement officials moved to forcefully disperse them and in the process, they violently assaulted the priests and arrested one of them who was later released. The incident drew condemnations from the Egyptian government, Al-Azhar and the Coptic Church. Read the rest of this entry »

EOHR once more calls for the suspension of case 173

 Human rights activist Esraa Abdel Fattah was summoned by the judge  appointed to investigate case No. 173 of 2011, known as the  foreign funding case in the media.Esraa was previously investigated in the same case on 9/10/2018 and was released on bail of ten thousand EGP. The Court of Cassation issues its ruling on the case known as “insulting the judiciary”, EOHR calls for the release of Mounib, al-Zayat, Qandil and al-Fakharani

 

The Court of Cassation ruled on Monday 15/10/2018 to reject the appeal of former president Mohammed Morsi and 17 other defendants, and reaffirmed sentences ranging from 3 years of imprisonment and a 30,000 EGP fine in the case known publicly under as the “case of insulting the judiciary”. EOHR implores President Al Sisi to pardon activist Amal Fathy

 The Maadi Misdemeanor Court sentenced women’s rights activist Amal Fathy to 2 years in prison and 10,000 egp fine in case 7991 of 2018. The verdict also stipulated that Mrs. Fathy has to pay 20,000 egp to suspend the execution of the sentence. Read the rest of this entry »
