EOHR urges the International Community to impose sanctions on the State of Qatar on account of its support for terrorism and the deceptive narrative of its media outlets.

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) condemns Qatari interference in the affairs of other countries through supporting terrorism by financial means and or propaganda. EOHR noticed lately that a writer defended Egyptian terrorist Hesham Ashmawi through Al Jazeera network; this writer described Ashmawi as a person who chose the path of armed resistance instead of describing him as simply being a terrorist. Al Jazeera did not issue an apology for posting such material and did not hold accountable the person responsible for allowing this to be posted. Al Jazeera did in fact run interviews with leading Islamic State militants active in the Sinai Peninsula and even attended their training drills and all was aired on the Satellite TV channel.

The permanent representative of Egypt to the United Nations said that it is natural for the State of Qatar which supports terrorism and interferes in the internal affairs of other countries not to understand the commitment of all member states of the United Nations, including Egypt to combating terrorism in accordance with the provisions of international treaties and Security Council resolutions. The Egyptian official also stressed that this requires Egypt to expose the practices and activities of the State of Qatar, which provides financial and ideological support to terrorist groups, and whose activities were not limited to the countries of the Middle East region, but affected many other countries around the world

After the events of September 11, 2001, the United Nations set the fight against terrorism as one of its top priorities. It issued several decisions and concluded several agreements in order to reach an international strategy to combat terrorism. High-level circles of governments of different countries all over the world committed themselves to this strategy.

A study previously prepared and published by EOHR confirmed that the Egyptian government has collected information about some countries’ support for some armed terrorist organizations that carry out their attacks in Egypt, and those countries include the State of Qatar, and for this reason the Egyptian government, in cooperation with some Arab countries, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, took a decision to cut Diplomatic relations with Qatar as a result of its support for terrorism. The four countries submitted a set of demands to the Qatari government, such as stopping the support provided to these organizations, and handing over some of the people involved in terrorist attacks.

Dr. Hafez Abu Seada the President of EOHR implored the international community to impose sanctions on Qatar on account of its violation of international law though providing financial and logistical support for terrorists. Abu Seada added that it is essential to hold Qatar accountable for the spreading of false and deceptive information to the general public that supports terrorism through its Satellite Channels
