2018 Egyptian Presidential Race

After several potential Bids for the Presidency, only 2 official candidates!

 

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially announced the preliminary list of candidates for the upcoming presidential elections. The list included only 2 candidates, them being the incumbent president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Mr. Mousa Mostafa Mousa leader of El-Ghad Party.

EOHR Strongly condemns the armed assault on Justice Hesham Geneina

 The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) strongly condemns the armed assault on Justice Hesham Geneina the former Chairman of the Central Auditing Organization one of Egypt’s top anti corruption agencies. Mr. Geneina is also a senior member of former potential presidential candidate Lieutenant General Sami Anan who was arrested recently for not acquiring legal permission from the military to run for office. The attack on Mr. Geneina took place on Saturday the 27th of January in New Cairo, and it left him with severe injuries that included a broken leg, as well as face a head lacerations.

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights will monitor the upcoming 2018 presidential race

 

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) decided that it will setup an election observation mission to monitor the 2018 presidential elections this spring. EOHR submitted requests to the National Elections Commission (NEC) to obtain permits for the 1650 members of our observation mission. The Ministry of Social Solidarity has approved EOHR’s request for preliminary approval and certification of accreditation and has informed the NEC of these steps. All of these measures were taken in accordance with decree No. 8 of 2018 which pertains to the regulation of local and international civil society’s role in monitoring the upcoming presidential race. The Terrorism Observatory condemns the Mary Mina Church attacks

The Terrorism Observatory of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights and the Arab Federation for Human Rights strongly condemns the terrorist attack that targeted Mary Mina Church in the Suburb of Helwan in Cairo. The attack which took place on Friday the 29th of December, 2017 left 9 people dead and 10 others wounded. The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) views the recent draft law proposal that incriminates atheism in Egypt’s house of representatives with great concern. The draft proposal was submitted by MP Amr Hamroush and it punishes atheism with imprisonment. The details of this draft proposal are not out yet however merely entertaining such bizarre ideas is dangerous as it clearly disregards Egypt’s constitution and universal principles of human rights that guarantee freedom of faith in absolute unconditional terms. The Terrorism Observatory condemns the Al Arish Airport attacks

EOHR’s and AFHR’s Terrorism Observatory strongly condemns the mortar attack that targeted Al Arish Airport on the morning of Tuesday 19th of December during a field inspection of police and military units stationed at the airportconducted by the Minister of Defense Colonel General Sedki Sobhi and the Minister of Interior Major General Magdi Abdel Ghafar.
